Human Trafficking
What is human trafficking?
Human trafficking is the use of force, fraud, or coercion to get another person to provide labor or commercial sex

Has no control of their money, bank accounts, or personal ID's
Shows signs of abuse, poor hygiene, or malnourished
Is not free to leave or come and go at will
Works excessively long and/or unusual hours
Appears to have lost a sense of time
Is not paid directly
Has a pimp
Is not allowed breaks
Sex Trafficking
Under US law, anyone under the age of 18 engaging in commercial sex acts is a victim of sex trafficking-regardless of if they were coerced or forced
Some victims are lured in by someone they're romantically involved with or with false hopes of a job opportunity
Anyone can be a victim, but vulnerable populations (runaways, homeless youth, victims of domestic violence, etc.) are at more of a risk
Labor Trafficking
Common types of labor trafficking include domestic servants, farm workers, factory workers, restaurant workers, carnival workers, and even health/beauty services
Immigration status, isolation, poverty, recruitment debt, and lack of strong labor protections are all risk factors
Labor trafficking involves forcing others to work long hours with little to no pay in horrendous working conditions
